Application of a precision feeding strategy for gestating sows

چکیده

Simulations of precision feeding (PF) in which gestating sows were individually fed a daily mixture two diets with different amino acid contents indicated reduction protein intake, feed costs, and environmental losses compared to conventional single diet (CF). These results have not been verified on farm. Thus, the objective present study was compare effect this PF strategy productive reproductive performances CF strategy. As effects such has reported yet sows’ behavior (frequency visits time spent feeder), it constituted second study. The experiment included 131 divided into strategies regarding their parity body weight at insemination. Feed supply similar for strategies. matched those from simulations as reduced lysine ingestion around 25%, therefore nitrogen excretion 18.5%, costs by 3.4 euros per gestation or 8 ton feed. Phosphorus intake also (around 8% 9%, respectively). Reproductive performance, defined number piglets litter weight, affected All usually ate ration one “feeding visit.” did constant “non-feeding visits” feeder during (on average 4.25 visits/d), while more non-feeding beginning 4.42 visits/d) less end 3.69 than (P < 0.01). 54% visits, 46% visits. (32.4 vs. 29.7 min/d, respectively, P Time over (35.3 29.2 respectively) increased gestation. In conclusion, can be used reduce without influencing performance reducing costs. Management and Feeding of Group-Housed Gestating Sows

Moving pregnant sows from individual stalls to group housing will require many changes in management and feeding practices to maintain optimal biological performance and sow welfare. Dietary energy requirements of sows may change compared with stall housing but requirements for other nutrients are not likely to change significantly. Producers may need to consider feeding requirements to support...

Evaluation of drop versus trickle-feeding systems for crated or group-penned gestating sows.

A total of 160 gilts were used to evaluate the effects of pen vs. crated housing systems and drop- vs. trickle-fed feeding systems on sow productivity, occurrence of lesions during farrowing and weaning, immune measures, and behavioral responses during 2 consecutive gestation periods. Of the 160 eligible gilts, 117 farrowed in parity 1, and of those, 72 farrowed in parity 2. The gilts were rand...

The physical size of gestating sows.

Two hundred ninety-six gestating sows were used to determine the physical dimensions of sows in commercial settings. Sows were examined from five farms within a single production model that included identical feed formulation, management practices, herd health, and similar, but not identical, genotypes. Sows were individually weighed, backfat thickness was determined by ultrasound, and body dim...

Gestating Sows in Deep-bedded Hoop Structures

and Implications A small demonstration sow herd has been housed during breeding and gestation in a deep-bedded hoop structure. Conception rates, number of pigs born alive, and birth weights were excellent. These results indicate that hoops provide a realistic alternative for housing gestating sows. A discussion of the decision considerations related to animal environment, sow behavior, bedding ...

Space allowance for gestating sows in pens: behavior and immunity.

Different floor space allowances for dry, pregnant sows in pens were evaluated to determine the impacts of space on sow behavior, immune, and cortisol measures. The experiment consisted of 6 replications (blocks 1 to 6; n = 20 sows/group), and within each replicate, physiological measurements were recorded for 2 consecutive pregnancies. A total of 152 sows were measured at 1 gestation, and 65 o...
